I have no idea what you are talking about up and down and not side by side. Does this piece have a dvd based nav unit that is mounted a different way than it was in the other truck? if so there are springs that have to be moved on most units. Are there removable panels on each side of the unit? if so look under them and see if there are springs that can be moved to abother position.

Would it be possible to mount it like it was in the other truck, just to check and see if it is the problem? Or go to a vacant parking lot and slowly drive in a circle, if it tracks you fine while driving slowly, speed up a little and if it quits working then it could very well be the mounting angle.

can't be mounted facing up.  Needs to be flat for best results
