Hello everyone!  I'm going to be installing a wireless camera in my truck soon.  The wireless camera and wireless receiver both came with power adapters that run on a simple 9 volt battery each.  The camera has one and the receiver has one.  Instead of having them hooked to 9volt batteries, I am going to try and hook the up to my trucks power system that way I'm not replacing batteries every two days.  Only problem is, is that they can handle no more than 9 volts power.  I purchased a Simple Voltage Regulator Board from www.etsnm.com that is suppose to turn the 12 volts into 9 volts.

I'm requesting some of your guys' knowledge and opinions on this.  Will this work?  Do you foresee any problems that would arise?

P.S.  I bought this wireless camera off of Ebay for about $10 just FYI

How much current does each device require?

You should be able to get away with a 7809 voltage regulator ($0.99 or so) and possibly a heat sink (if current is above 100mA).

Each 7809 should be good to 1A, if you need more then that just hook multiple regulators in parallel (and increase the size of the heat sink, as they will get hot with any load over ~100mA).

KPierson thanks for the quick reply!  The camera has a 200mA current and the receiver has a 500 mA current.  What set-up do you suggest in this case?  I did a google search for '7809 voltage regulator' and found the diagram in the link below.  Is this a good/accurate model to go off of (minus the 7805 regulator)?  Thanks again for your help and knowledge on this. I really appreciate your help!    -Dave

Yes, that would be fine, just do NOT forget the heatsink, as they will get warm!

So are you saying that just one 7809 regulator and heatsink would be sufficient to run both the camera and receiver?  Thanks again!  Also, where would I go about finding a place to purchase these?

I would use one for each, but you could get away with one (they are good for 1000ma total).  They are cheap enough though that you might as well get two.

www.digikey.com is a great source.
