Notes: Use a 330 ohm resistor to ground for headlight activation. Use 80 ohms to ground on the same wire to operate both the headlights and parking lights.

I looked through every wire in the cluster on the passenger side by the ecu and cannot find the WHITE/ orange wire.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere else this wire can be tapped into?

Disregard last question.   Found the thread talking about it.(under VSS)   It's a Dark GREEN/ YELLOW wire at PIN 27 for a 2004

Sorry for starting another string but think I was in the wrong place the first time.

I am trying to find the VSS for my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.   I have already seen on the baords that is its supposed to be a Dark GREEN/ YELLOW wire at PIN 27 for a 2004.    This is NOT working.    I am testing this by running a wire directly from the dark GREEN/ YELLOW line off of the sensor plug at the back of the transmission to the dark gree / YELLOW wire in the harness by the ecu.  It is the same color so can;t see why it is not the same.   It is showing no reading at all(using an ohmeter)  I hooked it up to pin 27 and still nothing.   Where is this wire????  I have to find this specific wire to hook up a GPS.   This is getting so frustrating.  Going on my third day trying to find that thing and don't want to keep poking into the wires trying to blindly find it.    Help please!!!!

BTW, I do have a Haynes book but it is worthless becasue it generalized 1993-2004 and says it should be a ORANGE / White wire which is not correct for a 2004(at least I think it is inocrrect.  No such wire can be found)  Any help at all would be appreciated

I thought the wire for all the new jeeps was GREEN / WHITE or GREEN/ Brown.

Do you have 4 plugs in your ECM, if so the end plug (green plug) position 32 should contain the correct wire. To confirm I always cut the tape, pull off the cover and visually confirm the position and wire color. I always put the cover back in place and retape it after I'm done.

Mine unit only has 3 main plugs.  But I do believe the color is different from the older years which was ORANGE / White.  I will check for a GREEN/ brown or GREEN / WHITE wire as well.

Can a simple test with an ohmeter work to find it?     e.g.  one side of ohmeter lead on suspect wire, the other grounded..   do a test drive to see if any signal exists and if rises with speed??? This is assuming it is a sensor that works by grounding itself though...   if this sensor sends out an electrical pulse instead then I need to be checking with voltmeter.    Any guidance here would be appreciated.

I've also read you can take it directly off of the transmission sensor.   Not the optimal place to tap into it because of having to run wire under the car, but will this work too?

Thanks

The only info I have is for a 4 plug computer. The wire colors in any case should be right.

Yes it can be tested with an ANALOG volt meter. A digital doesnt refresh fast enough. I used to do this back in the day, raise the rear wheels off the ground, Neg lead to ground and Pos lead on the wire to be tested. Trans in neutral and rotate the tire. The meter needle should move back and forth quickly if you have the right wire, with the meter set to Ohms R x 10 or R x 100 setting.

Many modern radios turn themselves up as speed increases to compensate for road noise. Many of these radios (not all and I don't know if your Jeep is one of them) have a VSS wire behind the radio. Again I don't know if your jeep is one of them. If I were hunting for the VSS wire behind the radio, I would look in the plug that doesnt contain the power and speaker wires.

Let me know if you find anything
