I turned on my avic-n1 today and the screen just stays black. I can press the screen and hte touchscreen stuff stll responds (i remember where some buttons are from my memory) but no matter what i do the screen wont light up. All buttons light up and the outer display works too when the screen is folded down. Also, a couple times when i insert the GPS disk the system powers off and then back on. Is my avic near death?

thanks man, i called the number they are gonna replace the cable for free, hopefully that solves the issue. I thought i was gonna have to replace the screen which is prolly worth more than the entire unit at this point.

The symptoms you gave are 100% ribbon cable related.  It will fix your problem.

Same happened to mine, i sent in for ribbon replacement and they said that the ribbon was in fact broken and they are replaceing it for free but that there was something else wrong with the radio and it is a flat $200 to fix it.  I agreed to the charges but im sort of wized off that they wont tell me what I am paying for....so be aware.
