I have a customer with a 2003 Expedition and wants to add a front screen to his factory installed overhead system. I am pretty sure it can be done, Ive read a few threads on here about people wanting to do it, just wondering if it has been figured out...thanks

hi,

yes it can be done. you need to remove the cover on the dvd player.  in the connector on the right edge, there is the video signal you need.  the connector is two columns with many rows (2 x 16?).  the pin you need is on the inside column, 2nd row from the front (face side) of the unit.  i use the case of the unit for the video shield (1/4" screw that holds the unit to the housing).  you may need a video amplifier to boost the output depending upon the monitor used..the factory overhead may dim slightly when the second screen is added

hope this helps

Well I am doing this for a friend who just wants to add a front 7" monitor for the passenger to watch dvds, so I guess I am just going to have to pop it open and try to figure it out, is it easy to identify what wires you need?

i take a female rca with a pigtail on it and carefully solder the center lead to the circuit board..at the position i described above.
