Hello,
I have a 99 Durango with keyless entry and no alarm. I am wanting to wire a blinking led into my dash. I want it to start blinking when the doors are locked using the remote, and stop when they are unlocked. What supplies do I need, and how do I wire it up (diagram)?

Thanks in Advanced,
dogthenine

Radio Shack sell blinking LED's with a built in resistor you can wire to 12v+. You can set it to go on when you shut ignition off and off when the car is running through a relay. Wire 12v+ to pin 30, to the LED positive side from pin 87a. Pin 86 to ground and 85 to ignition 12v+. You don't need to connect anything to pin 87. That would be the easiest way to add a blinking light for theft deterrence.

-------------
The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

I can do that without a relay. One side with resistor to constant 12+, and the other to an accessory 12+. But that's not what I want to do.

I want the led to start blinking when the doors are locked (not when the ignition is off), and turn off when the doors are unlocked (with out the ingnition having to be on.)

You may need a low voltage trigger or a channel creator to create a latched output using the lock button. Then shut off when you unlock.

Hey,

Are you still lookin for a dia gram to wire up this led the way u want?

To be honest, it will be easier to do it the way techman said in his first post. Although it can be done with relays, it will take way more time and patience then needed.

ive got a relay diagram for the way you want it. let me know

A 12 Volt flashing LED from Radio shack    A magnetic alarrm switch also available from Radio Shack.   You will have to mount the Switch somehow and attach the Magnet to the Door Lock rod so when the door is locked it will trip the switch.  You will need to use the Normally Open contacts of the switch.  No relays and No extra current draw.  Just the LED current, and that will be minimal.

How many wires are there going to your lock motor?

The actuator has four wires going to it.

I wonder if a latching relay would work. Your keyless is reversal rest at ground and when you lock door a positive pulse runs through ORANGE / violet wire and when you unlock a positive pulse is on the pink/violet wire. so with that and diodes to isolate, you could have first latch to give current to led and then second one to unlatch relay. Just an idea anyways.

but if he were to splice the actuator lines would they not affect the actuator itself because it would introduce an easier path to ground? (just wondering, ive never worked with latching relays)

I don't know...I have not had to use a latching relay before. But it will have a coil separate from output like a regular relay.

thats what im saying tho.

if he pulls a wire from one of his actuator lines he'd either have to send one side of the relay to ground (not good) or splice the relay into the actuator wire. (dont know how that would work)

So, in that topic, what was the final wiring diagram. I never thought about the auto lock feature while driving. That would be a problem, as I don't want it to blink the whole time I am driving.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I think, according to the FSM, the wires are:

BLACK/ light blue tracer = left door ajar switch sense
Light GREEN/ orange tracer = left door key cylinder switch sense
ORANGE / black tracer = door lock driver
Pink/black tracer = driver unlock relay
