I have an older Alpine 7982 Cd radio that I want to hook up to my iphone 3G so I can play music. From what I've researched, I can use the 8 pin cd changer plug and buy an adapter to make this work? This is NOT an AI-net radio, as it's probably 10+ years old. I do not want to use an FM modulator, as I want the best sound possible. Will this work? Not all of the M-Bus decks would support the AUX in adapter you posted. You will need to look around in the setup menu to see if you can turn the AUX in function on.

There is no menu that has anything with AUX in it. The menu only does bass, treble, etc. Now, I do have it connected to an Alpine 3342 11 band digital EQ, not sure if that helps?

So if I don't have any aux setting anywhere, it won't work? I thought it would work as long as I have the 8 pin cd changer cable on my unit. crap.

Here's an owner's manul that also works for this head unit. See page 19. https://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/OM_CDA-7998.PDF ------------- Support the12volt.com

If that is the 3 disc in-dash changer, then it is definitely not capable of the Aux input function.

Yep, it's the 7982 model. Crap. So I'm out of luck? No way to hardwire something in or splice?

That deck does not support the M-Bus aux in adapter. There were only a handful of decks that did support that part.

Thanks for the reply... What about the 2nd link adapter. WOuld that work?
Also, what exactly is mbus?

Ebay links do not work here. I can not see either of your links, but I know that radio does not support the adapters. M[bus is the name of the protocol used by alpine before they came out with the AI-net system.

Crap, so there is no way to do this? No way to harwaire it into the 6 disc change plug somehow?

If you have a WORKING 6 disc M-Bus changer, you can make it happen. The changer is needed for the radio to communicate with. That is the only way you can get that radio to switch to that input. You would have to cut into the cable and get to the left and right signal cables. Cut those 2 wires and wire up a relay to allow you to switch from the changer to the AUX input. Without a working changer, there is no way to get that deck to switch to that input. The radio has to be able to communicate with the changer in order to allow it to switch to that input.

Is thre a way you can give me more detail on this? I have an extra unit I could send you to test, if maybe you could help me to get this working???

Since the M-Bus changers have just about all quit working because of the age of the laser pickup, I have thrown away my changer controller deck. I do not need to test anything, but if you can connect it to your radio and it wiorks, we can make it happen.
Let me know if the changer works.

Do I have to have the actual changer??? I want to find a way to fool the unit so I don't need the changer. When I called alpine a long time ago someone there said you could do this if you have the right voltage or resistor?

I have actually converted an AI Net cd changer cable into an AUX input cable just as you are wanting to do. I simply got a diagram of the plug itsself, found the correct wires you need (left+, right+, & summed-) and soldered them to some female Monster RCA plugs (so I can use my portable DVD player if I so choose), and then I used an RCA to 3.5mm headphone cable (Monster, also ) to use it with Mp3 players or whatever I want. I am still using it for my Mp3 player to this day and it works great.
I did try to use it on an older Alpine deck shortly after I 'made' it, but that particular HU did not have AUX input capabilities so it did not work. I also tried to use it in CD changer mode, but I couldn't get it to work. I do not remember what the model # of that stereo was, but it was a 79-something.

Do I have to use the actual changer though? SOmeone told me there is a way to fool the system to THINK there is a changer connected when there isn't, then I can get audio to work through the ipod.

I honestly don't know how changers work through/with the cable, so IDK...

you have to have a working changer, or someone to build you an interface that uses the same protocol as the deck in order for the deck to communicate with the piece so it thinks it has a changer installed. It is not as easy as "Fooling" the deck.

It might. Why not contact them with your model number.
Otherwise for a few hundred dollars I might be able to interface something.

According to the reading I did, that device will do what you want it to do. It clearly states that it will work with or without a changer attached.
The only problem is you have an Alpine deck, not a Honda. There is one wire that needs to be moved on the plug to make it compatible with an Alpine radio. You may want to contact them and see if they can modify it to work with an Alpine deck.

I just thought of something and forgot to mention it before. I also have an Alpine 3342 Digital EQ. Couldn't I put a RCA A/B switch and plug it into the input of the EQ brain box? Then I could swtich between both inputs?
