I wasn't going to satisfy you post with a responce however, the more I read it the more it bothered me. I also do cars for a volvo dealership as weel as Ford, Chevorlet, Nissan, Chyrsler, and Jeep but I don't get my printouts from them. Besides to make a statement like that lets me know your not too, familiare with the laws of warranty or mabey they are just different in your state, but in my state a dealership can't refuse you warranty service because of aftermarket install parts unless there is obvious proof that the problem to be fixed is a direct result the the installed part.

Magnuson Moss Act Magnuson Moss Act | Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act, a vehicle manufacturer may not make its vehicle warranty conditional on the use of any brand of security system unless the manufacturer provides the system free of charge or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has specifically published that only the vehicle manufacturer’s product may be used. To challenge a false claim, ask the person to put it in writing, or request the vehicle manufacturer’s security system free of charge. If you are charged for the security system, or they refuse to give you a written statement, there may be a violation of Federal law.
This is the actual language of the act:
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this sub-section may be waived by the Commission if
- the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
- the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.
The district courts of the United States shall have jurisdiction of any action brought by the Attorney General (in his capacity as such), or by the Commission by any of its attorneys designated by it for such purpose, to restrain (A) any warrantor from making a deceptive warranty with respect to a consumer product, or (B) any person from failing to comply with any requirement imposed on such person or pursuant to this chapter or from violating any prohibition contained in this chapter. |

The Magnuson Moss warranty act is Federal, and covers all states..And unless Volvo provides the product to the consumer free of charge, they cannot make the warranty conditional on whether the consumer has installed aftermarket products---the burden of proof is on the manufacturer and the dealership; they have to prove that any malfunction or damage to the vehicle is the direct fault of the aftermarket product, and only then if the car has HAD a malfunction or sustained electrical damage...Simply threatening to void the warranty if the customer adds aftermarket accessories is in violation of the law; you cannot arbitrarily assume that a product *may* cause a problem or malfunction in the future, that would be like a police officer writing you a citation because you *might* speed in the future.. Pisses me off when a dealership uses these illegal scare tactics to frighten people away from buying aftermarket less-expensive products which are the same or better quality than what they offer! Not only is it unfair business practice, it threatens the livelihood of millions of 12v employees and retailers across the country! I have been a material witness in a few cases with this exact issue, and every one has been won by the consumer. ------------- Cary
