Notes:*1 Located behind the glove box in a harness. To unlock only thr drivers door on models with keyless entry. Use BROWN / blue negative(-) trigger at the relays behind the radio. *2 Found in a gray 20-pin connector. *3 To avoid the dome light delay use RED / white(-) at the door open indicator at the instrument cluster. The RED / white will also catch the rear hatch. *4 The PCM is located on the drivers side of the engine compartment or behind the center of the dash depending on motor. *5 The data link connector is under the driver side dash.

Is it true that the headlamp red wire is a negative output? So if I short it to ground the headlamps will come on? My friend of mine just installed a remote starter and the output is a relay pos output. This is the first time he has done anything like this but he swears that the light work the first day but now doesn’t. I had him test his Red avenger wire to ground and he did get a 12vdc reading. Am I missing something here?

Also I did some testing with his factory alarm. It seems when the doors are closed and you lock the doors either by the new starter remote or with the switches on the door the factory alarm dose not arm. But if you use the factory remote the alarm dose arm with the doors closed.

The starter remote will arm the factory alarm only if the car door is open. Just the same as if you open the door and push the lock button on the door. Must be a system in the car that will arm the alarm with the door switches only if the doors are open but will arm the alarm always with the remote.

Now that I look at the above colors the factory colors we got off the Designtech and these are different the DTI page tell me that...

Power Lock:

BROWN / WHITE (-)

DRIVER KICK PANEL OR AT

Power Unlock:

BROWN (-)

RELAYS BELOW RADIO ***

If I use the above color could I actspect the alarm to function correctly?

now I see that if I look at https://www.the12volt.com/request/99Avenger.asp that it show the same wire color as DTI

The wire rests at 12 volts and when the switch is turned on, the wier is a (-) trigger to turn on the head lights. You will need to test the wire colors given and the ones that register a change in polarity will be the right wires. Use the wire color diagram as a reference only, it is up to the installer to be able to distinguish wether or not the wire is the right one or not.

The door trigger is a (-) according to my notes, but again you must use some common sense and if common sense tells you that there are 4 potential wires that operate the locks and only 2 are the correct ones, you will use your DMM to test all 4 and when you find the two that make the DMM register when toggling the lock switch, those are the ones you want.
