Whelp, I metered out my wires and although the BLACK/ white wire is at a different pin location, I was getting between 4 and 8 volts with the truck running and nothing with it off. Back to the drawing board.

As far as the 2-way communication goes, DEI told me that the VSS3000s that were manufactured before 2011 do not work. Since I bought it from Amazon, I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the older ones.
