fiberglass weave overlay-would it work?

ive seen carbon fiber overlays and they look good, my question is if you overlayed some with fiberglass weave and used a gelcoat, would it get a similar look?  would you have to sand down whatever you are goin to overlay fairly smooth?  if anyone has done this before pics would appreciated thanks in advance

a fiberglass overlay will have no aesthectic values unless it is painted...plus you have to use expensive clear UV protected resin for CF overlays...otherwise it will yellow on you...

the underlying texture wont matter to the overlay...unless it is rough as hell...typical dash and door panel textures wont effect it...

Gel Coat is Opaque...so if your intent was to see the weave in FG cloth overlay, using gel coat wont help you..
