peripheral prc1 rca level adjust

I purchased this Peripheral PRC1 RCA level controller a while back and it worked great using it for my sub control. I took it out some time ago and I am now putting it in another vehicle but the input and output stickers fell off at some point. Does it matter which set goes to the source or the amp? The input and output stickers must have been on there for a reason from the manufacturer correct? I plugged the PRC1 in both directions and it seemed to work just fine. I'm not sure if I'm damaging the device in anyway by not having the correct input/output orientation. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You are not going to damage the level control, but if it is backwards, it will ground the output of your deck.   This should not bother the deck, but if you have an Ohm meter, I can tell you how to figure out which way is correct.

Meter set to ohms.  Volume control of peripheral piece full CCW.  One meter lead to shield of any of the 4 RCA connections of device.  Other meter lead to the center conductor of one of the RCA sonnectors, The 2 output jacks will read very near 0.0 Ohms.  Center conductor of the input will read 5K, 10K or 20K Ohms.  Depending on the value of the pot they use.

I cant see it hurting a thing either, its just a potentiometer. I wouldnt worry about which way it goes.

If he is using a deck with preamp outputs, no harm at all.  If he is using a LOC, probably not going to hurt anything either, but why put the LOC through the unnecessary heat of shorting the output to the shield.

True and since he's haveing to use the PRC1 it probably is on an LOC.

ok, so what i did exactly is attached my ohm meter to one of the pairs and i get 44.4 Kohms no matter where the PRC1 is set at. If I attached the ohm meter to one of the other pair, the meter reads 1.8 ohms when the PRC1 is at the lowest setting and 44.8 Kohms at the highest setting. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the fixed pair where the resistance does not change is the INPUT(line from the headunit goes here) and the variable pair that changes when regulating the PRC1 is the OUTPUT(line that goes to the amp), correct? '
