I first want to say thanks to all who have posted topics on this type of vehicle, quite a few helped me install my stereo, mainly becuase of the Infinity factory Amp. The only question I couldn't find an answer to is, Does anyone know how many watts this Amp is? I just finished installing a Alpine CDA-9813 tonight, it has 60x4 watts, anyone think the amp is voiding the original power or is it still helping, I installed alpine 6x9s in the door and 6 1/2s in the rear doors (quad cab).

Wire around the amp, I have almost no doubt the deck is putting out more power( and cleaner without going through the amp) then the infinity amp is.

I had a 99 ram myself Quad cab. I didn't use any of the OEM. How did you get 6 1/2 in the rear doors? I think I had 5 1/4.

Don't worry about the wattage - you can't use it. Here's what's happening with your factory system: your original head unit probably (I think) puts out around 6w RMS per channel. That signal then goes through your factory amp, which takes it up to about 20w RMS per channel (again, I think), before sending it to your speakers. If you hook up your deck, which is 27w RMS per channel, to that factory amp, you will fry it because it's reciving a signal almost 5 times as powerful as before. Solution: wire around it. This also gives you an excuse to upgrade to 14 guage wire while you're at it.

Okay, thanks guys, another project for this weekend. I was told that the 6 1/2s I got would fit perfectly into the rear doors... They didn't, one screw hole is all I could use, the other was off by half an inch or less, I just drilled new holes for the speakers, seems to work fine so far.

no you wont fry your factory amp by putting an aftermarket head unit in your truck. i have a Jeep with the infinity sound system and it has a factory infinity amp. i have had 4 aftermarker head units in there and never blew my factory amp. i have also installed many head units in chrysler, jeep, dodge vehicles with the factory infinity amp and had no problems with them. i have heard pepole think this before. but im just lettin you know, there is no problems to be had with this. im an installer at electronic express, and have not had any customers come back due to factory infinity amp problems.

Whoops, guess I stand corrected then. I've never tried this, that's just what I've been told, but since pimp59 has done this than I guess you're ok.

The pimp59 is right, any Mopar vehicle you will not have a problem adding a deck to with factory amps. By the way warrenjm, your factory speakers will have the factory amps attached to them. Iv'e been installing for about 13 years now and never had a problem with adding a deck to a Mopar. You will however have a more sensitive volume control. I wold highly suggest adding aftermarket spks and a 4 channel amp to your highs. I think you'll be much happier. Good luck

Your 6.5's will do just fine in the door. The reason that the screw holes don't match is because the OEM speakers were designed for the door.

As for connecting your aftermarket radio to your factory amp there are drawbacks. The amplifier won't burn out because of the wattage going to it but your speakers will blow due to the high levels of distortion that will be created by the radio/amp combination.

I have installed the exact setup in dodge trucks (last week actually) and although your factory amps will work , it will sound much better if you bypass them.
