I accidently hooked my power and ground backwards to my amp and burned it out. Is it still repairable?

I hooked up the power to ground and ground to power then I went to front of car to put the fuse and then It burned out. I hope it is still repairable. I need to know since the rair shop is an hour away don't want to make the trip is its not repairable.

The first step is to look at the fuse(s) on the amp. If they are blown, you are lucky. Simply replace it and see what happens.

If the fuse on the amp are not blown, and the amp is still not operational, and is NOT under warranty. Then you could open the unit up, and see what is broken.

You will most likely see some burnt traces, if it is a out put amplifier, or power regulator it may not be visable by sight.

So at that point you may have to bring it down to the shop for inspection.

No the amp does not have any fuses, It is defintiley blown out. I opened and saw some burn stuff on the inside but I could say what actually burned out.

I had a ppi amp burn up... put it in to be fixed...Was about 3 years ago hmmm wonder if its done yet?thanx for reminding me greg

My body shop guy had a burnt up amp once. I found the burnt up piece in a catalog at the local repair shop bought it for five bucks and soldered it in myself. Sounded great in his ride and got me a hundred off mine!

as long as you can still correctly identify the parts in the amp, and the circuit board isn't melted down, you can always repair it. the one factor may be finding the correct substitutes when it comes to the transistors used. one thing to keep in the back of your mind (actually two) - power transistors generally come in matched sets (push and pull) -- if one is blown, replace the pair with the correct matched pair replacements, and - don't forget to pick up a tube of heat sink grease for installing them. also check all ballast resistors and diodes in the immediate circuit and you should be fine.

Amp has been repaired by local shop, it cost me $45.
