I just recently installed an AST440 alarm system along with a 8618 starter kill relay. the instructions on the relay weren't specific on which of the two black wires (one was pin 30 and the other 87a) was key side and which was starter side, like it didn't matter. so, i just wired it up and now i can't start the car, there's no cranking at all. so it does matter which side is going to 87a and which is going to 30?

also, when i gave my alarm 12v the siren started going off. is incorrecty wired starter kill causing this?

Probably a majority of alarms will start going off when they are initially powered up, so that's nothing at all to worry about. As far as the starter kill relay...it probably doesn't matter which side goes to the key side and which goes to the starter, but the first thing I'd try is to reverse them and see if that fixes your problem. If not, then check where 85 and 86 are hooked up to...one should go to ignition switched 12v+ and the other to the alarms ground-when-armed output, and neither should be shorted.

Like chris said, it doesnt matter seriously but check to make sure the starter wire from your alarm is connected to the starter side of the relay and not the ignition switch side.
