First, thanks for all the help with my door lock problem.  After work, I hope to get it sqaured away.  Now for the remote question, a friend of mine is looking at having me install matching alrams in both of his cars for two car operation, and he was wondering if there is a way to use the same remote to disarm his home alarm system.  He currently carries around three remotes, one for each car, and one for his house.  Does anybody know of any manufacturers that I would be able to do this with?

Thanks,

Keith

Well for the car alarm's it will be easy, you could use any DEI alarm and program them with user recognition and do some cool stuff. As for the home alarm I don't know.

Another less expensive option is crimestopper. They have nice remotes that have 2 car operation. As for the home you might try smarthome.com I think I've seen some type of remote security system for the home and maybe they make something to add it to your vehicles keyless spare output.

I'm not sure that anyone makes a module like the one your describing but it would be a good idea. If it were me though and I really wanted to do something like that, here's what I would do. First off you would need 2 (home)remotes (one for each vehicle) and the vehicle would have to be near the house when you wanted to disarm the home security system. He would most likely need a keypad at his front door in case the scenario ever arose that he didn't have one of the vehicles in the yard as a back-up to getting into the home.
I would first pick out the remote start/security system that you liked and wanted to use that has the 2 car operation feature. Make certain is has additional auxillary outputs ( the more the better, depending on how many buttons are needed to arm and disarm the home system).
Next after wiring the start/security systems to both vehicles take one of the (home) remotes apart. Using the convenience of a relay, solder a relay to simulate pressing one of the home security buttons (ARM, for ex.) and trigger it with an auxillary output from the (car) security system. I would even take the battery out of the (home) remote and wire it (if it takes a 12v battery) to the vehicle so it is always powered and you never need to change the battery again. If you needed to press a seperate button to (DISARM) the home system, then use a 2nd relay for that function.
That's probably alot more work than you want to tackle but sounds like a fun project if you've got some spare time to try it out.
But keep searching around, maybe some clever manufacturer has come out with a unit that is compatible with a home and car alarm system.
I know they make garage openers that send a signal to open the door when you pull the high beam switch, maybe something like that could be modified similar to what I described above.
Good luck and let us know if you come up with anything.
