Does anyone know where i can pick up some generalized warrenty information for ford vehicles. I had a customer not wanting thier r/s put in because the dealer told her that it would void their warrenty. I was always under the assumption that if we installed anything the dealer would have no right to void a warrenty unless something went wrong and the remote start was the fault. I had another installer say that the ford warrenties were strong. Any help please.

Magnusson moss act. Have the customer show that to the service advisor and at the same time tell them if they even try to void the warranty that they will be taken to court for breaking a federal law.

I would recommend not giving your customer legal advice on what a dealership can or can't do. Ford dealerships can void a warranty claim and in most cases Ford will go with what the dealer say's, right or wrong. That will leave your customer footing the bill for a lawyer to fight Ford. If someone at her particular dealership said that, then tell her to ask for the service manager and ask them if it's true that Ford will void her warranty for no other reason than she had a RS installed. If the SM say's it is, have her call another dealership nearby and ask them. This is all about covering your own butt. You wouldn't want to be dragged into something because you told her they couldn't do that and they did. And some lawyer decides to come after you.

Not only that, the warranty is still intact. Repairs related to damage caused by aftermarket equipment are the only thing that is not covered. After repairs have been made warranty is still intact.
Using the starter for example, if an alarm causes a problem and burns the starter up. Customer/shop is liable for only the starter and labor. After that the factory warranty is still in effect for everything else on the vehicle including the new starter.
I have gone back and forth with service advisors, techs, and managers and on every occasion they have been proved wrong(sometimes in front of their supervisors).

I agree with both of you 100%. Here's my point. There is a world of difference between what the law say's and what Ford can do. Unfortunately what most people don't realize is that in cases of civil law, the law only applies in a court. Law Enforcement isn't going to come to your rescue if you believe that the dealership or Ford broke the law. If a dealership decides that an aftermarket install caused the problem, even if you know they're wrong, and recommends that the warranty claim for those repairs be denied, Ford will more than likely deny that claim and flag the vehicle in the system so you can't just simply take it to another dealer. You can argue with as many supervisor's, or GM's, or whomever you want about what the law say's, but it won't change the fact that unless you agree to pay the repair bill your car's not getting fixed. Now you can hire a lawyer and fight Ford on this and you may even win. But that's going to cost you money. Money that most people don't have. And in the mean time your stuck without a car. This isn't a worse case scenario, Ford has done this many times before. The easy solution to this is to simply find a dealership that has no problem with aftermarket alarms/RS systems and won't automatically blame the install if the problem your in there for can even be remotely related to the install. This woman's dealer has already given a hint as to what they might try to blame. So why mess with the headache of fighting with someone about what the law is, when you could just simply go to another dealership?
