I am doing a remote starter install on a 2000 Ford Explorer. It says that the OEM DISARM OUTPUT wire is Dark Green / Purple.  I found this wire in the kick panel but I like to test ALL wires before connecting them permanently. How do I test this wire and what should it read?

Thanks!

It will read Ground (0 Volts) when you turn the key to unlock in the drivers door. It will probably rest at +12v.

i usually splice into the wire and see what reading if any you get when you hook up a DMM and disarm the car with the factory remotes, other way i jumper the wire to ground or 12v whatever the disarm wire wants and try and set the alarm off
There are 10 types of people in the world, ones that understand binary and ones that dont.

With the ground probe of the DMM grounded and the red probe attached to this wire I get nothing. No reading and no change when I lock/unlock doors with factory remotes..

I also tried running red probe to 12v constant and then black probe attached to the wire and I get nothing at rest or lock/unlock.

So do I definately have the wrong wire?

Either wrong wire, or there is no factory alarm.
Open door, hit lock on dor switch, close door. THEFT in instrument cluster should go solid for about 15-25 seconds and then start blinking every few seconds. If it doesn't, you don't have a factory alarm so there won't be a disarm wire.
