Here is what I read:

A Phoenix Gold AN124 140-amp alternator with a 1/2-farad capacitor for noise filtration replaces the stock unit.

How does one go about doing this?

Wire it up like you normally would.  A capacitor is connected in parallel with the battery and alternator, so it will help smooth the ripples on the voltage going to your equipment.  There's nothing special about how he did it.  That sentence may sound a little misleading, but I think it's purpose is to tell you why he used a cap.  They could have said he upgraded his alternator in a seperate sentence.
