Cap

Again, I am trying to figure out how many things the installer did wrong with my car. Minus your personal opinion on the pros/cons of caps it appears that the installer grounded the cap to the frame and is pulling the ground for the amp from the cap. Using the "ground at the same point" rule this seems wrong. I have never had a cap before so I am unsure if the cap is providing both the + and - and therefore needs to be hooked up directly to the amp. Or should the amp go directly to the main grounding point?

Correct me if I am wrong but I have read that is ok to do that if  the ground is good at the cap.  I honestly would have grounded the amp sepperatly. That's just me though.

There is nothing wrong with pulling ground thru the cap as long as the wire is of proper guage and the ground is solid. Some caps have distro blocks build in to them for this reason. The cap should be on the same ground and +pos as the amp or amps.

The reason for the change on the topic is because of the rules of topic selections. Moderator do this. Just follow the precedures next time and it will not change next time.

Electrically speaking, it is better to go from ground to cap - to amp -, RATHER THAN Ground to cap - AND ground to amp -. Primary reason? Less wire, and fewer connected paths for the current to flow through. While the wire IS relatively huge, any additional resistance, no matter HOW small, will interfere with the actual "proper" functioning of the cap.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice.
