press the source button on the alpine, when the screen pops up with all the source's, at the bottom should be an icon labeld REAR, press it.
set rear to DVD. done.

I just tired this and still naddda.   Is there a good chance that I bought a bad set of RCA cables?

that might be your problem i recomend you first just hook up the new pair of RCA's with out actually running them to make sure that is in fact the problem before you un-install and re-run new RCA's. if that is not the problem and you are certain that the rear video select on the source screen is set to dvd then there is a chance that the old RCA's grounded out some where (pinched/streached) and your video out put might be toast. i have never had that happen but i have seen it.
