I am looking at the Responder LE units I love the idea of a 2 way remote that I cant break the screen on, and honestly they all seem to be pretty identical.

Why does DEI have so many brands?????

What the diff between them??

I have typically been a fan of Autopage remote starts in the past they have been very reliable and seem like well built units, I've also put in a few prestige units which also worked well but dont seem as nice quality wise, as the autopage units.

Because they can, trying to eliminate the competition as well have buying there patents.  And i thought trying to monopolize a industry is illegal.

ask the same question:  why does GM have so many brands??         so you can have 5 dealers in the same city selling the same product under 5 different names.... one dealer sells an Envoy, the next a Trailblazer, the next a Bravada, etc, etc and they are all the same product.....               you grab a larger chunk of the market share.... illegal??  hardly..........

So is there a difference then on quality or ease of programming between them, or are they all exactly the same on the inside?

as a rule, exactly the same...... a 562 series Viper is the same as a 562 series Python which is the same as a 562 series Clifford, Valet, Automate, etc etc......  they program the same and operate the same... it allows DEI to have multiple dealers in the same market selling the same product under different banners....

they're just trying to cater to all markets. just like what was said by kgerry - Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Saturn - all GM all the same junk.

So would you say that compared to the autopage units, the DEI, is a step up or a step down?

they have alot of brands to have different price points high and low, It also helps them control local area markets so if the shop down the road has viper they wont give the next shop close to them viper they might give them lets say clifford, or hornet. so then customers dont know that dei has so many brands so they will go shop to shop to get prices and the shops will have a select dei product.
I would say dei is a step up

Lets all have a laugh, they over reached here after dominating the UK market with Clifford I mean the original classic US made product, they over reached, and have had to shut down European distribution, ie UK Germany Holand Belgium and Israel. Turned it over the the UK equivalent of Metra.

Maybe selling to selected higher quality dealers/installers with higher margins and controlling the installed price through one brand was a better policy than the current dumping or pushing boxes that they've been doing over here for the last 2 years.

As an installer, I would not work at a shop selling anything but DEI. If a customer comes in with an autopage I might install it on the side but never through the shop with any implied warranty whatsoever.
