I recently purchased a remote starter kit from Bulldog Security. It came with an installation kit/computer friendly test probe. I've installed numerous car stereos with little difficulty, but never a remote starter. After watching the installation video, I talked myself into thinking I can install it myself. When I removed the lower steering column cover, I found two silver boxes that harnessed the wires.  This was not mentioned in the video, in any diagrams, or on their website. Am I looking in the wrong place for these wires?  When I e-mail them for support, they send me an automated response for a '99 Grand Am. If anyone has any ideas on how to access the wires I need to install this starter, please contact me. Thank you.

Doesn't the 1999 Grand Am's have the access for the ignition wires through the OEM radio ? The key cylinder is in the dash and is surrounded by the molding that wraps around the entire front of the HVAC & sterring column ?

So I need to remove the factory stereo in order to get to the ignition switch wires? Or do I need to remove all of the molding over the ignition switch?

It helps to remove the factory stereo but is not required on a 99 Grand Am. Just as a side note you might want ot make sure you have a bypass unit because the Grand Am has a factory immobilizer which will have to be bypassed, most likely Passlock I or Passlock II.

Notes:
NOTE: Production started around 3/98. NOTE: This vehicle has the passlock
II immobilizer system that, when adding a remote start, must be interfaced
with. Use DEI part 555t or 555L. *1 Remove the radio, without unplugging
it, to access the ignition harness. *2 Lock requires a negative trigger, and
unlock requires a negative trigger through a 1,500 ohm resistor. Must use
relays. Must close doors to lock with a single pulse. *3 Requires a high
current ground. Use a relay. *4 The lt. GREEN/ black is located in the
drivers kick and catches only the drivers door. The lt. blue is located in
the harness coming from the drivers running board going under the drivers
seat and it catches all other doors. Use both door trigger wires and diode
isolate each. On the 2 door the lt.blue is in the passenger kick.    *5 The
ECM is located under the left side of the dash to the left of the column.
