I'm trying to fabricate a connector that will turn on the detachable faceplate of the h/u when it is detached from the main unit.  On the back of the faceplate is a male 14 contact connector and on the main unit is a 14 contact female connector.  When the faceplate is connected and the male and female contacts are connected the faceplate is functional...I want to make a ribbon cable that will operate the faceplate when it is detached from the main unit.  I already have the connectors (both male and female) but need to know what kind of ribbon cable I would need.  Can anyone tell me how many contacts need to be on the ribbon cable that connect on the inside of the main unit to the female connector and same thing on the inside of the faceplate that connects to the male connector?

If you need a rough drawing to understand what I'm talking about...I have one...that may help you understand a little better what I'm looking for.  Thanks in advance.

What do you want to do that for? Are you using it for spl? Go to your local electronics supply store and see if they have a wire that will work for you. If the connectors have 14 pins then use a 14 conductors wire. How long a run do you want?

Yes it's for SPL.  I want to make an 8ft length.  I just don't want to have to bring the whole h/u out of the vehicle.  Rather than extending all of the wiring, it would be easier to just run a ribbon able from the face plate to the main unit...

Guess I'll open up tha main unit and see what kind of connection id made to the female connector....
