i wouldnt return to that shop either. they clearly dont know what a car will need for a high current draw system. as mentioned many times before my other members in this thread, the big 3 and alt upgrade is the best.

caps are waste of money. they say the cap will prevent a voltage drop ("protects hardware") but devices can only draw as much as it needs. if your amp draws 200amps  for example, and the stock alternator can only allow 100amps, you are now 100 amps over the peak and you can burn out your alternator or worse fry your electrical system. so just a recap, caps are really just bs. a cap can only fill in a power gap for a second or so, then recharges. which is no help.

Please tell me you got a full car kit of sound dampener. If the amp is in the trunk a cap wont hurt. Its a cheaper upgrade but you want to do everything you can to help that amp. Yellow Top Optima says my opiniarian. Curse the audio store for selling the equipment short. All to often brands get bad reps due to this. Stock equipment in any vehicle isnt intended for much more than it was designed for. A option can be to have 2 Yellow Top's and relay them to have 1 designated to run only on acc. So if it dies you have the other to start the car. Your stock alternator will only have to recharge 1 battery plus what it took to start the car on the other. I would get a second opinion on this though. Its a theory I thought of and use and dont know if its a common practice.
This is what I do for FUN!
