Going to be doing my first remote on my 2006 Taurus when it warms up a bit. Just curious how most of you splice the wires I need to tap into. Seen lots of different methods, just like to get a feel for how those that have much more experience splice?? And if using splices what kind--the regular cylinder crimp on both ends or the "T" splices with the tab?? Thanks!!

This is what i do

1) i take wire snips and slightly cut the insulation off on each side about 1/2 in length

2) i then take a straight edge razor (single blade out of a knife) and glide it across the wire to shave the insulation off.

3) once the insulation is off you have a 1/2 inch of wire exposed- i then spread the wire strands in half and slip my R/S wire into it and twist it around- wrap it real tight and then solder the connection- followed by 3M electrical tape

i solder, tape (3M), and heatshrink over that. liquid tape is also handy to have for those good bare metal ground connections you need to make so that you can cover them (ESP for anything outside the cabin of the car!).

Tell me about liquid tape please, N.B. I'm using fabric tape for internal looming, really stealthy on cars that use it and it makes a thinner more maleable loom than normal. Also moisture dieplacement sprays under hood for pin switches, siren mounts and especially the screw holes in the rear of DEI battery back up sirens. Also any joints under hood, either Molex water resistant or far cheaper, adhesive lined heatshrink.

it comes in a can with a brush on the lid for applying it. dries quickly and is somewhat flexible when dry. it's sorta lika "liquid rubber" that you brush on. same idea as liquid teflon tape but more durable. you can buy it in red, black, and i think white, although iv'e only ever used black. i use cloth tape for some cars like the ignition harness on Ford trucks, and i have the felt covered tape for Hyundais and new Cadillacs. for pin switches and such, i just use dielectric grease.

But what brand CK? From your methods I think we could work well together. N.B. I used to shove RTV down the screw holes on DEI sirens but they had a right old go at me. And and lets not forget mount the hood switch at the highest point because DEI alarms just love moisture building up around their products. Silly me it's not DEI anymore is it?

I think so as well Howie. I've noticed there are alot of things we do alike.

on the can its called "Performix" and it says its made by "Plasti Dip International". it also says right on the can made in the USA, so i wonder how hard it might be to find in your neck of the woods? maybe not as hard as i imagine. i use Permatex 22058 for dielectric grease.

Just about everything except Excedrin which a buddy brings over for me and Kent Ciggies which people get for me from Israel (they don't sell them in Western Europe any more, Eastern European and Chinese versions are locally made, Israel, Gulf staters and Russia use the US made product).
