what is the second ignition wire used for?

depending on your car, most car that i know that have two ignition wires. so the remote start unit provide two or more ignition wires to ignite your engine.

Second ignition is used for powering up various computers in the vehicle. The most common is the transmission computer. If this wire does not see 12 volts you can damage the transmission over a period of time.

jeff,

i thought that the car that have 2 ignition will have two ignition coils that charges up to discharges to the spark plugs. for a 4 cylinder, one might use for 1st and 2nd cylinder and the second 3rd and 4th or which ever distributed evenly to its unique engineering. but i dont see why they would call the 2nd "ignition" in the first place and not relating to ignition. please correct me if am wrong.

but i always hook up 2 ignitions wire that provided in the vehicles.

The number of ignition wires has no relation to the number of coils in the starter system. Take for example a Honda product has 2 IGN wires ( on some models ) but this has no relation to the ICM that the vehicle has. The ICM controls the spark that the spark plugs receive from the starter. When powering up ignition wires for remote start purposes you are essenstially powering up secondary computer's and control modules ( ABS, traction control, etc ) so that the vehicle runs like you placed the key in the ignition cylinder and turned it over yourself. Does this make sense ??
