I bought the DEI 555F because someone told me that it is what i needed to make the remote start work for my truck. When i got it i tried programing it like the instructions said and it wouldn't work. I read some topics on here saying the 555F will not work on 01+ rangers. Is this true? If it is, is the only way to get around the pats to buy the ford kit or lose a key? thnx

I have an 01 Ranger and needed a 555U and a key. I bought an extra transponder key from ebay for $16.00. If you have two programed keys you can program this new third key (for the 555U) by following the instructions in your owners manual. If you only have one working key you will need to go to the dealer for them to program them.

A lot of hardware stores now carry the transponder keys but they want around $25.00 for the key unprogrammed.
