Hello, I recently had a shop install a Viper 5901 with the 508D proximity sensor in my Honda S2000. Overall pretty happy with the work. I've found the 5901 installation manual (for my reference), but the 508D is giving me the most headaches at the moment. If someone can e-mail me a copy of the installation manual for the 508D module, I'd appreciate it.
- the shop put the proximity sensor in the top part of a compartment which is at or above the door level. I thought this may leave the area beneath the sensor vulnerable.
- the outer zone was too far from the car for my liking also.
I'm trying to relocate the sensor to the bottom of the compartment which would place it 8 - 10" lower. The ideal place in the car would be the center console, but the center console on MY05 has aluminum on the lid. The shop is about 50miles away and difficult for me to sync up schedules to get the adjustment done, so I'm trying to relocate (easy part) and adjust on my own.
I've done some research for installation and adjustment tips for the proximity sensor:
- Mount with tabs facing forward and rear (which the shop performed).
- Mount to metal ground plate (not performed).
- Adjust the outer zone then the inner zone (start with both adjustment screws stopped counter-clockwise).
- Turn the key on after 2-3 alarms to reset the brain
So my questions:
- What do the Green and Red LED mean?
- After getting the warn zone correct, adjusting the alarm zone seems to affect the warn zone. Are they related? Or is the inner zone a percentage of the outer zone?
- Would a sheet of aluminum flashing work for the metal ground plate? I realize and see that the sensor has foil on the bottom, so maybe this isn't necessary.
- I also saw one note that mentioned positioning the sensor so the adjustment screws are to the right front of the car. Is this necessary?

the 508d should be setup with the warn away zone being outside the vehicle set to your liking. the trigger zone should usually be set so that as soon as the perimeter of the car is entered (eg: arm thru an open window)
the green LED indicates when the warn away zone is entered. the red indicates when the trigger zone is entered.
