I did a 1997 F150 recently that did not have a PATS immobilizer.  I believe only some had them that year.  A easy test is to get a plain key key at the local hardware store for $1.99 and try it.  Conversely, you can place a working key in the ignition switch (but not turned) and try a remote start.  That should help determine where the problem lies.

Did you power all the Ignition wires?  There are a bunch of wires at the ignition switch.  Two Yellow +12v constant, two GREEN/ Purple +12v constant.  Two Ignitions, Blue/Light Green and RED / Black.  One or two Accessories, Gray / YELLOW and maybe BLACK/ Light Green.  You should use your DMM and test / verify all of them.

Soldering is fun!
