my cousin has a 2009 gmc acadia with oem remote start. she is having a problem with her oem remote start. the problem is that after she got a chech engine light on the remote starter stopped working, ans as soon as the check engine light is cleared the remote start works fine again. checking the check engine light code it shows that it is something to do with the emission. does anybody have an idea why the truck is having this issue. thank you.. if this post is on the wrong topic or forum, sorry, but i did not know where to post it.

Part of the way it is designed by GM. If she gets her check engine light properly repaired her remote start will work

so there is no known way to bypass that???? she has taken the vehicle to the dealership and they keep saying its this and is that, she gets it fix and same code keeps coming up. so she is tired of taking it in to the dealership and not having the problem solved. that is why she would just rather leave the vehicle like that.

No the factory remote start is in the BC&if the check engine light is on the bcm knows this&will not let remote start function where an aftermarket remote start would not b affected by the check engine light

I see, now it makes sense. thanks jim hunter. So since the remote start is in the BCM can it be possible to install an aftermarket remote start without having to replace the BCM with one that does not have the remote start in it????
