Remote start issue?

Lately I've been having trouble starting my vehicle with the ignition switch. I have a Clifford Solaris G3 alarm/remote start. If I use the fob, it starts every time. Is this more likely a faulty ignition switch or something with the remote start? What would be a good place to start diagnosing this problem. A few specifics: Vehicle: 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Alarm/start professionally installed in 2002 Problem first occurred sporadically, but has been increasing in frequency. I do have the install manual with wiring diagrams for the alarm, but haven't had the time to really work on tracing the wires. Are there some simple things to check first? I've been dealing with this for some time, but I'm looking to sell the truck soon and really want to fix this before I do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your truck has the Passlock2 immobilizer system.  That system is notorious for having issues like you are experiencing.  Internally, the Passlock2 portion of the ignition switch goes bad.  GM is aware of the problem but because it goes bad well after the warranty expires, will do nothing for you.  They will fix it by replacing the ignition switch for $600.  Of course that will interfere with the R/S system and the bypass module will have to be re-programmed or updated to match the new Passlock2 value in the ignition switch.

You have a few choices.  Find out what bypass module was used with the R/S install.  That will help determine your next course of action.
