Hello, I would like to replace the factory radio in a 2011 Chevy Volt. Would anyone know if a kit such as the Axxess LC-GMRC-044 is compatible with the Volt? It's not officially listed as a supported vehicle, but then again, nobody seems to have anything for this car, as far as I can tell. I'm wondering if it's just the case that there weren't enough of the Volts made to justify the R&D, and perhaps this kit (or some other) would actually be compatible. Besides a trial-and-error approach, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Michael

Hi, Thanks for the information you posted. I am trying to install a Pioneer SPH-DA120 radio in a 2011 Volt. I realize that because the climate controls are integrated into the display, I'm going to have to keep the factory radio connected, even if I do manage to install the Pioneer unit. I have already relocated the factory display, and also separated the Pioneer's display from the enclosure so that I can mount it where the factory display was.

Replacing the factory radio in a Volt is no simple matter as it is integrated into the vehicle information system. I would very much recommend you do not try to remove any of the OEM electronics in that vehicle.Support the12volt.com

Hello again, I would like to install an aftermarket radio in my 2011 Chevy Volt. Unfortunately, the Volt's factory radio is very tightly integrated with the climate control system, and is also tied into the vehicle's warning chimes and alert sounds, so completely removing the factory radio is not feasible. What I'd like to know is: how do I properly connect the aftermarket radio's speaker outputs to the vehicle while keeping the existing radio connections intact? (I am asking about the what the schematic should look like, not about making the actual connections. Also, I am experienced at soldering). Will I need resistors, diodes, or some other device to prevent any damage to the system? There are four pairs of wires coming from each of the radios, and I know the polarity of each wire, so I won't have any problems with phasing, but I assume that simply connecting the speaker wires from the aftermarket radio in parallel to the factory radio's outputs is not a good idea. In summary, I plan to use all of the features of the aftermarket radio (music/navigation/cell phone integration). The factory radio will not be used to play music, it will only produce chimes and alerts, and both systems may produce sound simultaneously. Both units feed into the factory amplifier; I would expect to make my connections ahead of the amp. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Michael
