I am looking at the vehicle wiring information for fitting an alarm to a 08 Honda civic and I am wondering what the factory arm and disarm wires are. Are they not the same as the lock and unlock wires?

No, different wires. Info below for a U.S. market vehicle, not sure if your Righthand drive vehicle is the same.

OEM Alarm Arm ORANGE (-) 34 PIN CONN REAR OF FUSE BOX

OEM Alarm Disarm BROWN (-) 34 PIN CONN REAR OF FUSE BOX

Lock GREEN 34 PIN CONN, REAR OF FUSE BOX

Unlock GRAY 34 PIN CONN, REAR OF FUSE BOX

Here is a link to a Pictorial on a 2007 Civic ( 8th Gen 2005 thru 2010 should be similar ). It has a photo of that plug and the wires.
