I've never shortened a cable on purpose. I have repaired them ultimately making it a little shorter. It's not terrible to do just small wires...

it would be nice if it possible to get the crimps and the plastic connector.

sorry i cant help with that. I usually just cut the wire a little back from the connector and reuse the pins.
