i just started working at best buy here in Raleigh NC. I've had experince in the private sector, doing installs for friends and others by way of word of mouth. Before the MECP test i'm making 9.00hr. Not bad, concidering its more than i was making at target. But yeah, the hours always sucks, no steady schedual

yea we've had some people come from the local shops and they can't stand all the paperwork and crap we have to do.  Admittedly it';s all really dumb and there are way too many stupid rules that can really make the job a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

Also they cut back on everyone's hours this year because of the economy or whatever and it was definitely some crap.  If you are a really good installer though and can put up with the frustrations it can be a pretty secure job.

Best Buy sucks A**. If you are a custom high end installer, forget it they are just like any of the other "chain" stores. You are better off staying with a high end custom shop unless you wanna do deck installs all day. I hate that place I wouldn't buy a washer and dryer from them corporate scum!!

I never worked for Best Buy but i did work for Future Shop for a year... it was a nightmare.   I don't think there was ever a paycheck i didn;t have to have fixed. Any way they can find to screw you they will......   Advise: buy a palm pilot and track your hours cause they WILL rip you. And the best part?  you have to wait 2 weeks before it is adjusted on your next pay...   Best Buy and Futureshop are crooks. bottom line.  Employment there is a last resort.... but it may be enjoyable if you like to install decks repetitively in the same vehicles day in day out. grin....

Best Buy is a great place for a beginner installer. Thats why most guys who have no prof. exp. get stuck in Best Buy. You will learn a lot but dont plan on making a 12 volt career at Best Buy. I live in the East Coast and you will make the most money as a 12 volt business owner. The amount of profit can pay off big with the right advertising and promotions!
