My sister has a 2001 Chrysler town and country mini van with the infinity sound system and a factory 6 cd changer. While driveing the sound totaly stops comming out from the radio and cd. Nothing.... not even a hush from any of the speakers. This van has 8 of them.
I first thought it was the radio it self. I changed it and still noting but silence. I ran new speaker wires to the rear and I get sound with the factory system.
I then took the top of the dash off and ran new wires from the speaker to the radio and that worked also.
So my best guess is that the speakers and not getting the 12 volt supply to turn on. All the speakers have amps so if no voltage no sound. Right?
Does any know where the 12 volt source for the speakers comes from, it is not from the head unit is it?
Thanks
John

There may be a speaker short somewhere in the factory wiring that is causing either the factory head unit or the factory amp(s) to go into protection mode;  while in protection mode they will remain turned on and appear to function normally, except there will be absolutely no sound output.  Once the speaker short is fixed or the bare wire stops touching the metal or whatever is the problem, then it'll start putting out sound again.
