Hi, I'm a total newbie. I have a quick question. Is it possible to wire an amp up without having to directly link to the battery?

generally no. i have seen a custom amp for my truck that included a wire harness that you installed somehow (dont ask me how) directly into the rear of the truck. but the answer is most likely (99.9%) yes you have to run a wire to the battery. why would you not want to anyway? it will make it easiear to expand your system later. run a heavy gauge wire from the battery to a distro. block and you will have the ability to add more amps or whatever you want later without having to run another wire from the battery itself

Thanks for the response. Like I said, I'm a total idiot when it comes to these things! How's the best way to do that without making the wire look totally obvious?

the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask. You need to wire straight from your batt. that will give you the best performance. remember to use a fuse about 12 to 18 inchs from your batt. it will save you from a nasty fire.

Thanks for all the help guys. No premium sound system in it. I replaced the head unit with a pioneer DEH-1500. Nothing fancy, but better than the stock unit.
