lights on 2002 dogde ram

ok i got a question....i had to install a keyless entry on a dodge ram quad cab today...its a 2002.   i checked wiring info in a few sources and  they all said the parking light wire was violet / YELLOW and at the light switch. it was a negative wire and i have a positive pulse coming from the keyless entry brain.  so i used a relay to have -12V pulse to the wire.   well the lights did not work.  i am hoping maybe one of you has worked on this vehicle before and might know how to get the lights to flash.  someone pleeeease help!!!    i returned the vehicle with everything working execpt the lights flashing....i got the customers number and i said i would personally come to his house and fix that as soon as i can figure out what the deal is with this weird light system.  any help is greatly appreciated!!  thanks in advance!

well i got a positive trigger coming from the alarm...so i used a relay to have a negative pulse go to the wire.

You can also find a positive trigger wire under the hood, I believe it is BLACK / YELLOW.Certified Security Specialist

yeah most dodge chrystler jeep vehicles have a BLACK / YELLOW  positive parking light wire.   thats how it is in my Jeep and almost every other one i have worked on....i looked for that wire but i couldnt find it.  well thanks everyone for your help.  it turns out i did have the relay wired right but like elrayodesinaloa said, i need that 1400 ohm resistor to make the lights flash.  it works...thanks alot for your help!

DODGE, RAM PICKUP, 2002, Parking Lights- Parking lights require a negative trigger thru a 330 or 1.4K ohm resistor. Headlights require a negative trigger thru a 1.8K ohm resistor. There is a rest resistance on the wire, so MUST use a relay to isolate away from the switch. I think all the ones I have done have used 330.   I've also always isolated away from the switch. Don't know if its needed, but DEI recommends it. 86 - positive parking light output 85 - ground 87 - ground thru resistor 87a - switch side of purple / YELLOW parking light wire 30 - other side of wire Test to make sure the resistor you are using is the correct value before wiring everything in. Just ground the wire thru the resistor directly and make sure just the parking lights go on. The wrong resistance can turn on the deadlights, which you don't want.

Don't worry so much about getting the right resistor. If the resistor is wrong, the headlights will flash at the same time the parking lights do----no big deal, and some people may even like it better. You can get the BLACK / YELLOW positive wire underhood, in a large harness at the very top of the firewall, on the driver's side.........it's really easy, since it's right above the grommet where you'll probably want to pull your wire through. Also, there are a couple of small wire bundles under the driver's dash, above where the driver's left foot would be. I found the BLACK / YELLOW in there, and it worked fine. If all else fails, just flash the brake lights instead of the parking lights.........that's WHITE/ tan at the brake switch.
