I am thinking of getting a couple 6v batteries and hooking them up in series to make 12v. I want these to be backup batteries for my alarm. My alarm has no place to hook up a backup battery, so I was thinking I could somehow hook it up so if the main power supply (my car battery) were to be cut off, a switch would flick causing the backup batteries to kick in. How would I do this? Also if I got rechargeable 6v batts could I hook em up to recharge with the alternator or will this cause major problems?

About how long would 2 6v batteries last with 4 piezo sirens, one large air sirens, and a regular alarm siren last? Don’t need exacts but want to know so if I cant get the batteries to recharge on their own I will know how often I will have to recharge them in my house.

I was thinking the sirens would be activated with my 93 VW Jetta alarm with a relay on the power wire of the stock alarm. Will t5his work fine?

How should I hook all the other stuff up to work?

Wow back up batteries, 4 sirens and an air one??? Where in the world do you live that you need all that extra precaution and security and what do you hold inside your car that needs all that security? just curious...I just wonder what your neighbors will do when the alarm goes off, that's gonna be one annoying alarm and another reason for a lot of people to hate car alarms.

I figure if it hurts too much to put your head into my trunk and car then my stuff is safe, unless of course they bring ear plugs but i doubt they will untill the second attempt. I just got stereo stuff in my trunk. My alarm has no bump sensors so the alarm will not go off unless someone opens a door when the alarm is armed. There wont be any false alarms and even if there is the neighbors can suck it up.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Don't waste your time with the dual 6V. Actually go out and buy a BUB(back up battery) system meant for car alarms. Also if you are running too many sirens of a BUB then it will diminish the amount of time that it will work. I would loose any air sirens and put in a BUB sirens.

Yeah, get the aftermarket battery backup. They are extremely cheap if you lok around and come with a charging circuit.

Consider relaying some of your sirens so that the battery backup powers on a few of the sirens you plan to install. Something like this

86 - constant (nonBUB)

85 - siren out (tap off it) passing this wire to other sirens.

30 - to sirens which will not sound when battery cut.

87 - ground.

This is just to save you battery back up power. Like the air horns.

I really dont want to get a bub. Why couldnt i just use some rechargable 6 volt batteries and hook em up to my alternator?

How would i wire them?

I dont want to get a bub b/c they will cost me money and i can get unlimited rechargable 6v batteries for free. How would they be harder to use than a bub?
