66 microbus!

wow, didnt expect to see another fellow vw enthusiast here, or are you just doing the install?  well, one important fact about a 66 microbus:  stock is 6 volt.  it has probably been converted to 12 volts if its still on the road, tho.  but what that says is that whatever wires there were (if any, am radio isnt an option seen too often) have probably been altered, spliced, burned up, replaced and everything else.  but one thing that is on your side is that the wiring in the bus (unless someone has really altered it) is so simple that you could probably completely rewire the whole thing in a few hours.  sorry i cant be more help, but most likely the wiring will be different from any other, as most of them are.  but let me know how it goes.  good luck.oh, god... what did i do now??

yeah, im sure if hes done that much work to it, then it has been converted to 12v.  the wiring may not be that bad, either.  you best bet is to just wire everything straight into the fuse box (ign., 12v).  i have found that there are usually several open terminals that will have constant power, and a few with power ign. on only.  with the proper connectors, you can just wire right into the fuse panel.  and if the owner really cares about his bus, which it sounds like he does, you might want to consider mounting the head unit under the dash with one of those plastic mount-anywhere boxes.  the factory hole in the dash will be too small for a standard din-style head unit, and i doubt he wants the dash cut up, or even the factory blocker plate (if there is no radio) removed.  as far as speakers, the door panels will work, provided that the mounting depth is fairly shallow.  you wont have to worry about window clearance, though.  i cant think of any more tips off-hand.  if you have any other questions, let me know; i may or may not have a suggestion or answer.  ive done installs in a lot of bugs, and a few buses, too.   well, good luck!oh, god... what did i do now??
