Hi guys, ok i have 1 Mtx 8000 series sub (400 Watts rms, 102 ounce magnet, 4 ohm) im running it off a sony 2165 gtx amp and im using it in 400 watts x 1 @4 0hm in a single reflex band pass enclosure. Now, this sub is LOUD and POWERFULL!!! Im using it in a  2002 chevy trail blazer. Is there anyway of knowing if you are giving your sub too much power as in they will blow soon? Im asking because when i turn up the volume nice and high , the sub seems too handle the power with no problems and shakes everything but the cone moves like  back and forth like crazy and really far. I think this is known as 'Xmax' or excursion or somthing. According to the site the 'linear excursion(one way)' is .48'' . But this thing in my car moves wayyyyy past .48 inches!!! So is that good or bad , or am i just really paranoid??

Thanks ,bassam

i think as long as your sub sounds the way it should and isnt making any noises like its going to blow it should be fine.  i have a 600 watt amp powering 2 200w rms subs and i can hear when i overpower them

the sony amp may not be the best thing for them, if your paranoid and have money why not upgrade to a better quality amp.

yeah as long as u dont hear any funny sounds coming from the sub, like anything that doesnt sound like bass, then ur ok....but sony amps suck so u may want to get another one.  it will make the sub sound better
