Has anyone installed either of these head units? Do you have to have a fused 12V(+) directly from the battery even if your not hooking up speakers directly to it, Im just using  the RCA preouts and all my speakers will be hooked up to amps.

You have to fuse the 12v power but you don't have to go directly to the battery if you are using the RCA outputsand not the amp installed in the radio

i agree with SoundFX, the shop in witch I work sells alpine Therefore I have installed hundreds. As long as you don't plan on using the internal amp, you are fine wiring it behind the dash, make sure you turn off th internal amp in the menu, this will cut down on heat Alpine CDA-9813/9815 -- posted image.

you don't even need the fuse actually, you already have 2 in the fuse box protecting itAlpine CDA-9813/9815 -- posted image., but hey, 3 never hurts.  I always leave it there.  Make shure you turn off the internal amp by holding the "F" function button for 3 seconds and scroll through the settings till you get to the amp setting.

Have fun! you got a sweet deck there, , i have the cda-9815 and i love it, , i only wish my gear shifter wasn't so close to my head unit, cuz then i would have a cda-7998 with the phantom face.  Oh whell.

they are amazing, the imaging is spectacular, there is a different setting on the x-overs for every possible speaker placement.  Basically spending the $300 or so more was worth it because my music went from imagining the band was playing on my hood, to the band playing on my dash for real kinda deal.  Toonnes of bass output if you completely seal your doors.
