I have a DEI 550hf that doesnt want to learn tach. it has a good tach signal but when i go to program the tach, i start the car, hold down the valet switch, and instead of the LED glowing constant to indicated it has learned tach, the siren chirps once and then cycles a few more times. I dont deal with DEI so i dont have any tech support on this problem, any help would be appreciated. Im guessing something has to be wrong with the unit itself??????

Are all your wires hooked up correctly? The ignition (yellow and pink and pink/white) needs to be hooked up so the alarm knows when the car is started. I would double check those, and double check your tach wire, but it sounds like the alarm brain does not know the car is running. I sounds like you are entering the programming menus, rather than just the tach learning.
So double check all your wires and try learning the tach again. Also, try learning the tach with the driver door closed, if the door is closed then you can not enter the programming menus, this might help.
Hope this helps.
Remember check all your wires with a DMM!

yeah, all the wires tested ok, i even tried a new tach connection to make sure. the dealer unhooked the remote starter to install a new ignition cylinder and harness, so now when we went to hook up the remote starter again, the unit wont learn tach, and we had to reprogram the transmitters, so who knows what the dealer did in there.

Did you jump the two little red wires under the access panel? Worse case scenario, set the alarm to voltage sensing.
