1985 Caprice Classic interior light problem

all right i drive a 1985 Chevy Caprice Classic, and recently i installed a receiver with info on the wires gotten from here. well we had a little problem hookin it up, and my friend who did it said we had to do "crossover" (someone can explain that to me too haha) and we have the accesory wire hooked straight up to the fuse panel...but then i had to take that radio out and so i hooked a diff one up and now it doesnt have a memory; no constant power, and the interior lights stay on all the time...anybody know where i can locate the short, like which wires would be crossin and where they would be located? like i know u cant just sit here and tell me where theyre shortin at but at least where i should look maybe? thanks a lot Dibz

Dibz, I know this sounds idiotic, but is the headlight switch knob turned completely one way or the other (I think fully counter-clockwise)? Unless you maybe did something in the kick panels or the B-posts to ground the white wire on the door pin switches directly to ground, your install should have nothing to do with the dome/courtesy lamps. It's a simple circuit- the orange wire from the courtesy fuse sends power direct to the lamps, and the white wire is the ground, as supplied by the 4 parallel door pin switches. The headlight switch in this case is merely a 5th parallel switch.

Crossfire is a term that means you wire the front speakers as directed and the rears backwards. I never really understood the reason for it, but that has been around for ever. I beleave some GM cars were wired that way from the factory. As for your problem. I agree with hotrodelectric.Remotep
