ok i was installing this cd player in my friends grand am and i guess when we cut the wire harness the 12 volt wire sparked and and now needs to be repaired we were told. So now after it sparked the dome lights stayed on and there was a constant beeping noise until the car is turned on. so now the 12 volt wire has to be repaired i guess. Does anyone know how much that will cost or any suggestions on anything. I really need them. Thankks

Another example of why you shouldn't just jump in with wire cutters if you don't know what you're doing. Car stereos are not as simple as people think, and not as simple as they used to be, especially not in GM products.

How much will it cost? it depends on what you fried. In a GM car you could have done anything up to and including toasted your on-board computer, which will run you a couple thousand bucks. Hopefully all you did was blow a fuse somewhere.

If I were you I would have a reputable shop put the car back to factory and finish it yourself with the proper wire harness that should have been used from the very beginning. I don't know about your area where you live, but here in the central florida area excpect to pay anywhere from $30 to $60 dollars labor to put the car back to factory and about $15 or $20 for the factory harness plug. Most likely you did not damage anything yet as that car has most eveything fused.

I agree with DYohn, it all depends on what kinda damage it was. It could be REAL bad or just a fuse
