Just so im understanding.....I have a 2001 Ranger Extended cab and need to make a custom box for a 12 inch sub to fit behind the seat.  All I need to do is mask off the area and make a standard shape, then cut a circle for where the sub will mount to, and then cover it with fleece and fiberglass that? And this will be strong enough for a sub and have the same sound quality as a MDF box would?

You would mask of the area and then lay foil over it to make sure NO resin will leak into your interior. Then once you have done the bottom you can make extensions to raise a 12 inch MDF ring you will need to cut, then you cover the whole area with fleece after you have trimmed off excess fiberglass. Once you have the fleece all resin soaked then you add 5-7 more layers of fiberglass over and sand it down, paint, add carpet, whatever. Hope this helps.

Do you leave the wooden posts that hold the ring inside the fiberglass frame? or do you take them out?

I usuall just leave the posts holding the rings up, I find it gives the rings more suport and makes it stronger. But thats just me.'01 Ranger Ext. cab custom box, 12 inch sub -- posted image.
