What is the difference between waxed resin and non-waxed.... other than the fact that i have to prepare the surface before glassing again?... i order from a distributor and get the waxed type (fishman brand!).  Is there any advantage to having waxed resin?.....   just need some direction. I have been buying the waxed cause it says Fishman on the can, just thought i should have some ammo if somebody disses it..... : )

what are you using the resin for?

The waxed resin is a laminating resin. The only use that I have found for it is if you are not trying to fiberglass something, just need to seal something, or coat something with resin. For instance, if you were making something out of MDF, that you were going to paint, and needed it sealed so that no moisture would soak into the MDF, spray the resin on, let it dry, remove teh wax, prep, paint...
The lamitating resin has a wax then when it dries, settles on teh top, depending ont eh resin, they use different types of wax, some need to be sanded, some can be removed with hot water.

If you are doing fiberglassing, don't use the laminating resin. You just want standard automotive grade polyester resin.

the stuf i'm using is waxed polyester resin. seems to work great for saturating and building..... it is strong as hell.... i wouldn't think of it as "finishing" resin.... it seems to do the job just as well as regular automotive resin (cantire).  What is the wax for, sealing?.......

The wax sits on top because polyester resin is air inhibited, it does not ever completely cure when exposed directly to air. So the wax sits on top, so you can use it without any cloth or anything, and it will stil harden.
I think I was confused, I think finishing resin has was, and laminating resin does not... sorry if I cause any problems with my falst info
