I like to really exercise my amplifier, and after pumping it for a whilt it gets pretty hot (go figure). Anyway, I was wondering what would be a temperature I should look for to lay off of it. It's an Xtant 1000A, and they're really good about staying cool, but it's a pricey item and I don't want to ruin it. Thanks to everyone who gives me some feedback.

what size wire are you running to it for power and what size is your ground...?

I just realized I'm in the wrong forum...oops. Anyway, I have a 1/0 power, through a 200 watt ANF fuse, into a 1 farad cap, with a 1/0 ground. The power to the amp is a 4 gauge, and so is it's ground. The specialist who sold me the amp said that would be fine, but I just want to know if it would benefit me to put a digital readout temperature gauge on it. Thanks for the advice!

if you're that worried about the temp you should install a fan.

just make sure it doesnt get really warm to the point of hurting your hand cuz thts a big big sign u need a fan lol... my old sony used to burn me until i burnt it

where is the amp mounted?

how many subs are running on it and what impedence are they?

an amp is going to heat up when you play it as will all electronic items when they are on. but like superstreet786 said it should never burn you. you should be able to set your hand on it and experience any pain. when it gets hot enough to burn you there is a problem either with the amp itself or the wiring, whether it be power and ground or you may be below the suggested ohm rating . does it cut out when you play it loud for a long time?? if so you are probably below the ohm rating. even your cd player heats up after being played for a while, ever notice how a cd is warm after its been in your deck for an extended period of time. but if you wanna play it safe i'd suggest a fan or two. if you have some sort of amp rack where the amp is enclosed i'd use 2 fans, 1 push and 1 pull. good luck, hope this helps

Xtant amplifiers have on-board fans and thermal protection systems, and if it gets too hot it will shut itself down. They also sell an optional dual fan system to help keep their amps cool if you need it. In general, these amps will protect themselves, but if it is getting so hot that it becomes dangerous to other things near it, then you need to mount it in a way that it either can get additional cooling from outside air or so that there is nothing flamable near it.
