I'm about to fire up a diamond audio tdx 12d4 subwoofer, powered by an alpine m1000.  the sub is in a 1.4 cubic foot box.  I've heard suggestions for breaking in subs before, would this sub benefit from being broken in somehow?  The manual doesn't say anything about it.

Yes, it could help.  I suggest an easy way to do this is to simply operate the sub with low power for a while.  4 to 6 hours each with no more than 25% inpout power, then up to 50%, then 75%, then skys the limit.  Just don't hit it hard right out of the box and it should be fine.

Good breakin tip from DYohn. However from I noticed the 1.4 cubic foot box. You man lack some of the major bass that sub can produce. You are at the very small end of the recommended encolsure size and the sub displacement in is about .13 Cubic foot. I would recommed jumping that box up to about a 2 cubic foot atleast or open it up by throwing in a port. Check your manual for the recommend ported enclosure it is a pretty good starting point.

According to a magazine review of this sub, diamond later changed the max sealed box recommendation to 1.75cubic feet.  But in any case, i've got an alpine mrd-m1000 dedicated to this one sub, and it's 1130 watts rms are pushing it just fine.  A larger box would only hurt the SQ.
